I’m trying to make AI safer by figuring out how it works, especially using tools from math and physics.
Currently, I'm a research lead at Iliad and a PhD student at the University of Melbourne, researching training dynamics, singular learning theory, and the mathematical foundations of deep learning. I mentor for the Iliad Fellowship and the CBAI Research Fellowship - if you're interested in doing similar research, please apply! I also help run a weekly seminar on these topics every Thursday.
Before pivoting to AI safety in 2022, I built rockets (embedded software, electrical, and aerospace engineering), and briefly did condensed matter physics research. My undergraduate degree is in math and computer science from Boston University.
